Aim: To redesign the Key Art and advertising for the film with quote variants
I decided to redesign the posters and advertisements for Memento, the 2000 film from Christopher Nolan. I wanted to capture one of the more interesting themes of the film, trust in yourself, especially with the short term memory loss Guy Pearce's character Leonard Shelby has. The condition means he constantly trusts what he wrote on the several polaroid's and notes he leaves for himself. But also comes as a consequence as he finds that he doesn't know what he did from minute to minute and then starts to see himself as unrecognisable when, in a harrowing point of the film,  a picture is shown to him smiling, covered in blood and sweat. This was the main moment in the film that gave me inspiration for my design, showing off the unknown side of a man who doesn't really know himself. The half and half motif is something that may have been done before but I find it is poignant here, as Shelby's two sides seem so unrecognisable, also the pose in which Shelby is showing the image to the viewer almost like asking if you can figure out the mystery as it unfolds, one of the core viewing experiences Nolan tries to convey through the film. As one of the self imposed challenges on myself I tried to keep all of the same information and text from the original 1 Sheet and Quad posters on my version of the designs. As if this was a true project for real world, I would not have the luxury to not include these vital parts of the poster.

Final Designs
For the quotes and reviews version of the posters I decided to show the actually full image of the polaroid seen in the film, the thought would be that the movie would be out a few weeks at this point and would be tempting people to see this film that has such a gritty tone, as like the design. The hope would also be that the full image would allow word of mouth to spread from repeated viewers of the film talking to friends and family due to how the image is connected to such a major plot point of the film.
Blu-Ray Packaging
Subject: 'Memento'
Aim: To translate my poster design into Blu-Ray packaging
The main concept of the design was to have the two different posters become interactive with the packaging, Having the Polaroid section of the Slip cover cut out allowing the Sleeve to show the other half of the face like in the original design underneath, taking off the slip cover will show the full image of the polaroid. The back design for the Slip cover is inspired by the elaborate map Shelby has on his hotel room wall throughout the movies, showcasing his multiple polaroid's and notes.
